Presence and Connection: The Secrets to Authentic Public Speaking
Our guest speaker, Doreen Downing, Ph.D., a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, speaks on the above topic, introduces her “7-Step Guide to Essential Speaking” and invites the audience to participate in a brief experiential exercise.
Women in business must express themselves all day, every day and in a variety of situations.
Whether she is giving her opinion at a meeting, offering ideas on a project, delivering a presentation, or sharing her vision to her employees, a woman at work is always speaking in public. Being fully present and able to tap into her authentic voice while connecting to her listeners are the secrets every woman must learn in order to overcome fear and develop a confident business presence.
Doreen Downing Ph.D., a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, once suffered from stage fright. Even though she had a successful private practice and worked with individuals to overcome their fears, she was able to hide the fact that she had a terror of her own…speaking in front of groups. She set out to conquer this fear and discovered that being centered in one’s “essential self” is the key to confident and authentic public speaking.
Her book, Essential Speaking: “The 7-Step Guide to Finding Your Real Voice” takes you beyond scripts and techniques, the mainstays of conventional public speaking classes, and introduces an innovative way to transform your anxiety based on presence, authenticity, and connection. Check her out at www.essentialspeaking.com.
Doreen is founder of The Essential Speaking Institute and Training Director of Speaking Circles® International where she has conducted seminars and trainings throughout the US, Canada, and Europe. She teaches the Fearless Speaking Program in San Francisco, offers E-Courses, and is available for private consultations. Her compassionate coaching techniques model genuine presence and authentic communication.
