A Powerful Question

I received an email from one of my writing mentors, Naomi Rose, and I want to pass on to you a question she presented.

It’s a powerful tool you can use to help calm your nerves whenever you have speaking anxiety (or any anxiety, really)

Naomi asks… “How far away is your breath?

She answers…“It’s right here.

“As soon as you become aware of your breath – that you are breathing in and out – the breath deepens and widens, becoming a living carrier of the life force.

“Of course, it was this all the time, but – amazingly – once you are aware of it, the life-nourishment deepens and grows, enlivening the whole of your being.

“You are in-spired.”

My Technique

This reminder Naomi provides is a powerful message if you are someone who gets anxious when you have to speak in public.

The quickest way to calm yourself is to use your breath.

In fact, I have a breathing technique that’s my personal favorite. It’s the one I personally use whenever I feel anxiety and need to calm my nerves quickly.

It’s called the “Box Technique,” but I refer to it as the “4X4.”

Read the instructions and then you can try it.

First close your eyes.

Inhale slowly through your nose and count to 4. Then, hold your breath for 4 counts.

Next, exhale slowly as you count 4. Then hold your breath as you count to 4 again.

Repeat this 4 times.

Go ahead and give it a try right now (if you’re in a place where you can).

Don’t worry, I’ll wait for you.

Did you try it?

How do you feel?

Overcome Your Fear

If you were anxious before, are you calmer now? Do you feel more “space” from your anxiety?

This is just one technique you can use to calm yourself down quickly.

But it won’t address the root causes of your speaking anxiety…

That’s what I can help you with.

And I’d love to help you overcome the fear that holds you back from being fully expressed…. and comfortable in your own skin.

Which is exactly what I can help you do in an Anxiety Breakthrough session.

In the Anxiety Breakthrough session, we’ll:

  • Identify your #1 challenge to speaking in public.
  • Create a clear picture of exactly what you want when it comes to speaking in public.
  • Make a clear plan to overcome your challenges and finally feel comfortable in your own skin when speaking in public.

If you’re ready to overcome the fear holding you back from fully expressing yourself, sign up for an Anxiety Breakthrough session here:
